Discovery Educational Software was founded in 1998 by Fred Martin, who taught Modern Languages for 26 years before moving into Learning Support. He started developing computer programs for his own pupils in 1984, and his first published title, Six French Games immediately became a best seller. Several other titles followed, all published by AVP Ltd of Chepstow in Wales, now sadly out of business. Fred has now retired from teaching and devotes his time to software development. Based in Scotland near Dundee, the city of Discovery*, we specialise in multimedia software for learners of modern foreign languages, including English as a second or additional language. Our aim is to put fun into learning languages, and we do this by using sound, pictures and games, which entertain as well as instruct. Our software is developed by, and in consultation with, practising teachers. All voices are native speakers. We are contunally updating our software and extending our range to meed the needs of users. ![]()
* R.R.S. Discovery, our logo, is the ship in which Robert Scott made his expedition to the South Pole in 1912. It was built in Dundee and is now docked there and open to the public.
